The following conversation took place during a heated conversation about even and odd numbers. I can hear my father laughing ...
"Aaargh! Sean you are killing me!"
"No, I'm not mommy. I don't even have a knife."

Mr. Lizard
Poor Mr. Cheeto Lizard had the misfortune of wandering into camp two weeks ago. After being spotted and attempting to hide under our tent, Mr. Lizard was promptly captured with a throw net, admired by half a dozen small children, and then transported 60 plus miles to where he now lives in an old aquarium above our desk. Mr. Lizard likes to eat crickets, sit on his rock, sit under his rock, and, apparently, fly airplanes. Escape attempts having proven futile (notice the stumpy tail in picture 2), he now seems resigned to his fate.

Fresh from the backseat
Sean: I want to be the U.S.A. They're my favorite.
Aiden: Why?
Sean: Because they are better than the Bad.Guy.A. The bad guys are dumb. That's why I call them Democrats.
I kid you not.

Lately Gavin...
I am changing this feature's name from "Today Gavin" to "Lately Gavin". Let's face it - I'm just don't have the ability to post daily. You're lucky to get the monthly post. :)
1. Gavin has started using all kind of "tools" to unlock doors. We have to lock Gavin in his room to keep him from wandering all over the house in the wee hours of the morning after I found him wraped in a blanket, downstairs at 2 am watching some kind of infomercial. To accomplish this we've turned the door knobs around so that the lock is on the outside. Gavin has discovered that he can use - coins, zippers, certain toys, and (my personal favorite) the plug on electrial items.
He also ..
2. takes the ice cream out of the freezer at 7 am so he can have a "treat".
3. pours body wash in my neti nasal pot.
4. lets the chickens out of their pen to chase them around the yard. He'll even follow them under the deck so there is nowhere to hide. Poor birds.
5. if he gets to the eggs first he will scramble them for you.
and, last but not least,
6. is FINALLY potty trained.

I'm Back!
So it's August and I am sitting here wondering what happened to my June and July. This summer has gone so fast it's hard to believe school starts again in two weeks. We are continuing the great homeschool experiment this year - Sean will be starting first grade and Aiden is entering fourth (!!!!). I am hoping to be much more organized and productive this time around. We didn't lose any ground last year as Aiden is still testing very well and has actually improved in some areas - mainly reading and comprehension. Yay!
Without further ado - I give you snippets of our summer....

Today Gavin...
One of my friends advised adding a section to this blog specifically to chronicle Gavin's actions on a day to day basis. I have decided to call this segment: today Gavin...
Today Gavin was especially cute. We released our ladybugs into the garden and he kept trying to hold them so he could look closely but they either flew away or went walking up his arm. He was so gentle - I don't think he crushed even one.

Sean Burns is.....
THE SLUG POLICE
Technically this should be part of spring 2011 but I felt this deserved it's own post. If you look carefully you'll see the binoculars on the top of the gator. He also built a "slug trap" which the slugs would trigger by pushing over a rock holding up a board that would then fall and smash them. I'm not sure what the tupperware was for...
